Raider Camp Creek Base Camp (Wilson Creek Area) --Not scouted & all distances approximate--
Come see Raider Camp Cliffs and the spectacular 200 ft Harper Falls. Originally a summer hunting grounds for the Cherokee, the area was logged after 1750 and then, in 1999, designated part of the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System.
The trailhead begins for us on SR 1328 just south of Mortimer Rec Area, which is north of Morganton. We will follow Trail #260 1.5+/- miles to find a base camp on Raider Creek. Saturday we will loop #277 past Harper Falls to #260 X with #266 on N Harper Creek; #270 to #265 to #260; #260 back to base camp -- 6.5 miles. Sunday out and back home. Elevations are between 2,200 and 3,000 ft.
Group size is limited. To participate: (1) Fitness and experience to cover the distances and proper gear. Leader pre-approval plus $25 refundable at the trailhead deposit required.
