Solutions to solid waste

One of the last initiatives lawmakers took up at the close of the 2007 legislative session was a comprehensive solid waste reform bill.  The most important overhaul of the state’s solid waste laws in two decades, the bill grew out of a year-long moratorium on new landfills enacted by the legislature in 2006 in response to proposed mega-landfills in the eastern part of the state and the Piedmont. As an added bonus, the bill establishes the computer recycling program Sierra Club has championed for the past two years.
