Cliffside, Coal and Global Warming
Duke Energy, the state's largest utility, wants to build a new 800-megawatt coal-fired power plant about 55 miles west of Charlotte, on the South Carolina border. If built, the proposed plant would emit millions of tons a year of carbon dioxide, a potent greenhouse gas.
