Thursday, November 13: Children Get Fit and Improve Air Quality!
According to the EPA, air quality is much worse around schools where more children are driven to school than around those with students walking and biking. The national Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) encourages communities to explore ways to make it safer for more children to walk and bike to school. Rising fuel costs are forcing school districts to re-examine their busing policies. Did you know that some students in Winston-Salem are bused 4 blocks to school? Come learn what is happening in Winston-Salem with Safe Routes to School and how you can help. Long-time Sierra Club member Judi Wallace will share exciting examples from her Safe Routes to School work as a national SRTS instructor and local coordinator. For more information on the program, call Judi at (336) 768-3339 or go to http://www.saferoutesinfo.org/
