Visionary . . . Innovative . . . and Do-able! Landfill Hearing

Our legislative agenda for 2008 is just that:  visionary, innovative and do-able - and don't forget ambitious!

Your financial investment in the North Carolina Sierra Club's legislative work today provides the critical resources our volunteers and staff need to defend the public's environmental interests and to push forward on increasing our state's environmental gains.   Here are three key areas we'll focus on during this year's legislative session:

  • Clean Cars - Legislation to reduce global warming pollution from cars and trucks has a great chance to move forward this year.  North Carolina could tip the scales to put the entire country on the road to a cleaner car fleet if we're successful.
  • Drought - North Carolina is in its third serious drought in ten years.  Our legislators must act with comprehensive reforms to ensure that conservation is not just a drought response, but a central component of water policy in the state.
  • Hardened Beach Structures - The Senate made a shortsighted move in 2007 by passing a bill that allows structures such as seawalls, jetties and groins.  If this bill isn't stopped in the House, it won't just erode our beaches, it will erode the principles of coastal management the state has prided itself on for more than 20 years.

The Sierra Club has been an effective advocate for environmental protection in North Carolina for almost 40 years.  Because of our work, North Carolina is leading the way in the Southeast on many of our nation's environmental protections.  But solutions won't happen without you.

There are three ways you can make a financial contribution in support of the North Carolina Sierra Club's work:

1.  You can make a one-time donation online with your credit card.  (NOTE: You do NOT have to set up a PayPal Account.)

2.  You can make a recurring monthly donation online with your credit card.  (NOTE:  To enhance security for monthly donations, you MUST set up a PayPal account.)  By becoming a monthly donor, you will become part of a group of supporters who provide a reliable source of funding for our work throughout the year - in the most convenient and cost-efficient way!
