The Central Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club endorsed the following candidates

The group praised McCrory for "strong leadership on environmental issues." The club noted his work to promote public transit and sidewalks and his regional approach to environmental issues. They also praised his efforts to reduce the number of billboards and cul-de-sacs.
In the at-large race, the group singled out Mumford for his "refreshing personal commitment to the environment, as shown by his frequent commuting trips by bicycle or city bus." The endorsements also noted that Laura Lewin, a candidate who was not endorsed, shows "a strong concern for environmental issues."
Among the district candidates, Carter garnered praise for her "key role in the preservation of the Evergreen forest." The club has more than 2,900 members in greater Charlotte.
