SmartCommute Challenge
Deadline: 30, 2008
Details:
SmartCommute ChallengeThe SmartCommute Challenge is a pledge that you can take between April 15 and May 30 to try a cleaner, greener way of getting to wherever you need to go. You can choose to take the bus, train or, vanpool; or bike, walk, carpool or telecommute instead of driving alone. During the last Challenge, 12,700 people participated and together we saved over 2.3 million commuting miles and 110,000 gallons of gas. That means that 12,700 cars that would have been on the roads werent! We also reduced VOC (volatile organic compounds) pollutants by 3,280 kg and NOX (nitrous oxides) pollutants by 2,650 kg.
Lets beat last years numbers! We can do it. With the help of Sierra Club and other organizations, employers and individuals in Wake, Durham, and Orange counties, we can make the 2008 SmartCommute Challenge an even greater benefit to our environment, and maybe even start some new habits for a more sustainable lifestyle.
The pledge can be taken online at www.smartcommutechallenge.org on or after April 15. When you go to pledge, be sure to choose Sierra Club, Capital Group under how you heard about the Pledge. That way, we can track the number of Sierra Club members who participated this year! Those of you who work for a large employer may wish to find bus-buddies to ride with or set up your own carpools. There are so many ways to find a greener, cleaner way of commuting.
There is help for folks planning their new commute:
The 2008 SmartCommute Challenge is sponsored by Triangle Transit (TTA) and SmartCommute@rtp. Everyone who pledges will be entered into a drawing to win fabulous prizes. Be on the side of clean air, our global environment, and local health and take the SmartCommute Challenge pledge on or after April 15. It feels so good to make a difference!
