Take Action

Senate Bill 591 "Option to Stop Delivery of  Phone Books", sponsored by Senator Janet Cowell, would provide consumers a “do-not-receive” option to stop delivery of telephone books.  It also encourages directory companies to support local recycling programs and requires all directories distributed in the state to be printed on 30% post-consumer paper.  This bill will be heard in the Senate Commerce Committee this Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in Room 1027 of the Legislative Building (16. W Jones St.). 

The telephone companies have been working hard to defeat the bill.  They claim that the vast majority of people want phone books delivered and there is no need fort the legislation.  TELL 'EM THEY ARE WRONG by showing your support for this critical bill.  Three actions are needed to ensure this bill passes:

• CLICK HERE to email members of the Commerce Committee IMMEDIATELY to letting them know that SB 591 is important to you and asking them to support a do-not-receive option.

• Please attend the meeting and let your presence be counted.  While you do not need to be prepared to speak in support of the bill, visible public support is crucial.

• Please tell your friends to send this action alert.
