Capital Group Priorities in the General Assembly

You can play a part in Sierra Club efforts to support our conservation issues in the General Assembly. Plan to join us for a  Lobby Night.

Transit - The #1 issue for Capital Group this year is transit. We will be tracking and actively promoting the "Congestion Relief/Intermodal Transport Fund" bill  (HB 148 and SB 151). Learn more about this issue by reading a News & Observer article, "Wake Transit Plan Hinges on Sales Tax."

Jordan Lake Rules - Another issue that the Capital Group will be tracking is the Jordan Lake Rules. Learn more about this issue by reading a paper posted by the NC Justice Center.

Capital Area Friends of Transit - Wake County’s population will double in just two decades, and we must have a great transit system in place to help move people from home to work and recreation. Recommendations for a regional transit system were recently released by the Special Transit Advisory Commission. Local elected officials will soon consider adopting these recommendations, and the NC General Assembly will consider transit legislation at the beginning of 2009.

The Capital Group has joined an alliance of community organizations, business, and civic leaders to form the Capital Area Friends of Transit to send the message that the Triangle needs a first rate transit system. Please consider adding your name, as an individual, to the list of Capital Area Friends of Transit supporters. Visit www.capitalareafriendsoftransit.org/sign.php to add your name and become a friend of transit today!

Help Shape Raleigh's Future -Raleigh's Draft Comprehensive Plan

The City of Raleigh has released its draft 20 year Comprehensive Plan.  This draft plan will lay out the vision for how Raleigh will grow and develop in the next 20 years.  Before the plan can be voted on by the Raleigh City Council, the city is requesting public input on the draft plan.  For this plan to reflect what citizens want our community to look like, we need to comment on this important document.

The Capital Group has submitted responses to the plan, however there is still time for public comment.  THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO FEBRUARY 28, 2009!  Please visit:  www.planningraleigh 2030.com to review and comment on this critical document.
